Slackware

The oldest surviving distro — simple, rock-stable, and unapologetically manual.

Slackware is the oldest surviving Linux distribution, maintained since 1993 by Patrick Volkerding with a philosophy that has not moved an inch: keep it simple, keep it UNIX-like, and change nothing without reason. There is no dependency resolution in its package tools by design; you are trusted to know your system. Configuration is plain text files, services are BSD-style scripts, and nothing happens behind your back.

That sounds austere, and it is, but it is also why Slackware installs from 2015 still run today. The full install ships a complete environment (KDE Plasma included) that simply works, and the system's transparency makes it a superb teacher. Slackware is a statement that an operating system can be finished, comprehensible, and calm. Its users would not trade it for anything.
