EndeavourOS

Arch's power with a friendly installer and a helpful community.

EndeavourOS desktop screenshot

EndeavourOS is Arch with a welcome mat. Unlike Manjaro, it uses Arch's actual repositories, so packages arrive at Arch speed and the Arch Wiki applies word for word. What it adds is the missing on-ramp: a Calamares graphical installer that sets up a working desktop (your pick of eight-plus environments or window managers), a helpful welcome app, and one of the friendliest communities in the Arch sphere.

The philosophy is "terminal-centric with a safety line." After install, you are running what is essentially vanilla Arch with light theming, and you maintain it the Arch way, through pacman and the wiki. EndeavourOS simply spares you the bootstrap ceremony and hands you a sane starting point. For many users it hits the sweet spot: real Arch, real AUR, real rolling speed, without the rite-of-passage install.

Strengths

  • Genuine Arch repositories: no lag, no compatibility asterisks, wiki applies fully.
  • Painless graphical install with a broad choice of desktops and WMs.
  • Near-vanilla result: light theming, no heavy customization to fight.
  • A famously friendly, patient community for an Arch-based project.
  • AUR ready to go, with yay preinstalled.

Considerations

  • After install it IS Arch: updates and maintenance are still your job.
  • Terminal-centric by philosophy; GUI management tools are deliberately few.
  • Occasional manual interventions on updates, same as Arch itself.

Standout features

  • The fastest respectable route from blank disk to working Arch desktop.
  • Welcome app handles mirrors, updates, and common first-week tasks.
  • Offers window-manager editions (i3, Sway and friends) preconfigured sanely.
  • No corporate angle: a small team and community doing one thing well.

Who it's for

Best for

People who want real Arch and its AUR without performing the manual install, and who are happy maintaining it terminal-first.

Maybe not for

Users who want held-back tested updates or GUI system management; Manjaro or a fixed-release distro fits better.
