Pantheon

The most design-focused desktop on Linux; calm, consistent, macOS-ish.

Pantheon is elementary OS\'s desktop and the strictest design statement in Linux: a dock, a top panel, a multitasking view, and applications built to one written human interface guideline. Every animation, spacing, and behavior is deliberate; nothing is configurable that the designers believe should not be. The result reads as macOS-calm, though its conventions are its own.

Built in Vala and GTK, Pantheon is fast and cohesive, and its native apps (Files, Music, Code) follow the same visual grammar. It is developed for elementary OS and effectively lives there; installing it elsewhere is possible but unsupported. Pantheon is for people who want a finished desktop, in the literal sense: decided, consistent, and complete.
