Vanilla OS applies the immutable, atomic idea to a Debian base with unusual creativity. Updates use an A/B dual-root scheme (via its ABRoot tool): the new system installs to the inactive root and you reboot into it, so a failed update simply leaves you on the working side. The desktop is stock GNOME, clean to the point of minimalism.

Its signature tool, apx, is a package-manager multiplexer: it can install software from Debian, Arch, Fedora, and other ecosystems into tidy containers, giving one machine access to practically every Linux packaging world without touching the immutable base.
